T-Mobile today announced the general availability of T-Satellite, its satellite communications service, after a month’s test with daily active users up to 30,000. In total, 2 million people have already tried it in their test phase.
Interestingly, three times more messages were received on the T-Satellite than the sent. The T-Satellite basically uses more than 650 low-level orbit satellites to act like cell towers. T-Mobile gives this bill as “the largest satellite to mobile constellation”.
This works on more than 60 phones that require no applications, both running Android and iPhones. The T-Satellite texting service provides “as you usually do”. It is automatically connected when it is in the series, and you will see the “Sat” icon when it is attached. As satellites are moving, there may be short gaps in the service, but your phone will try to send your message until successful.
T-sitelite is included for T-Mobile experience and in GO5G plans, as well as for more customers that were part of Beta. If you are on another plan, you can add satellite support for $ 10 per month. Non-cosmers can also get T-satelite “for a limited time” at the same price. This service currently covers Continental US and Puerto Rico, Hawaii and “parts of Southern Alaska”.
