The first phones to use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 SoC started rolling out last month, following the official announcement of the chipset, and yet, if you’re for some reason wondering what to expect from its successor, a few details have emerged today.
Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 is likely to be unveiled in September 2026. It will reportedly be built on a 2nm process by TSMC, and this will enable some great gains in terms of power consumption and performance compared to its predecessor.
The 8 Elite Gen 6 is said to support LPDDR6 memory and UFS 5.0 storage, and could be even more expensive than the 8 Elite Gen 5, which will inevitably make the phone using it more expensive than the current batch of flagships that are just launching. Whether the performance and efficiency improvements are enough to justify it, you’ll have to decide for yourself when the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 devices hit the market this time next year.
