Sony launched the WH-1000xm5 (such a cute name, isn’t it?) over-the-ear sounding headphones back in May of 2022, and believe it or not, that’s almost three years ago.

So if you’ve been patiently waiting to see the successor, it looks like it’s finally on its way. The WH-1000xm6 (seriously great nomenclature!) has the model number YY2984 and features removable earpads with redesigned hinges.

That would extend the life of this set, as in theory Sony could offer replacement earpads if yours breaks. Or it may sell earpads in different colors separately to allow you to further customize your headphones.

The XM6 (we’re just going to call them) has support for Bluetooth 5.3, which may or may not mean it will support Bluetooth audio. The SoC powering them may be made by MediaTek. Fast charging will be supported. The driver size seems to be the same as the XM5.

The privacy window ends on July 22, 2025, but this does not mean when they will be announced. That’s when the FCC will release its photos of the device along with its manual. For context, note that the XM5 was announced 13 weeks before its confidentiality period with the FCC, so we assume something similar will happen at this point. Since the end of the privacy period is a few weeks away, the official announcement could come as soon as April.

Until Zape
