Both HMD and Lava will introduce smartphones that will receive broadcast TV without the need for the Internet or Wi-Fi. These devices will be exhibited during the World Audio Dio Visual and Entertainment Summit (Waves) 2025, which will be held between May 1 and 4 at the Jio World Convention Center in Mumbai.
The technology is called Direct-to-Mobile (D2M) and allows the phone to receive signal and stream multimedia content without the need for a cellular or wireless connection. We know that the Lava phone will be equipped with an ultra-high-frequency (UHF) antenna that receives a terrestrial TV broadcast.
Lava and HMD phones are phones with both features that will have an SL 3000 chip dedicated by Sankha Labs. Lava confirmed that his phone was developed in collaboration with Tejas Networks and will be powered by the MediaTek MT6261 chip. It will also have a 2,200mAh battery and 2.8 “screen, which raises the question of which needs to be seen on such a small display.
