MediaTek is keeping its 4G range chipsets alive, but despite the numbers suggesting, the new Halio G2 is not a big upgrade on the Hellio G100. The new chip brings a high GPU clock speed, a better HDR video quality and new tech for cameras that improve using social networking applications in areas with spotty reception.
In the heart, this is still mostly the same 6NM chipset which was Hellio G99. G100 added 200MP camera support, improving it with 12-bit DCG support for better HDR in G 200 videos.
The CPU has 2X Cortex-A76 cores (2.2GHz) and 6x A55 (2.0GHz), which is the same as before. However, GPU, Mali-G57 MC2, has now dropped to 1.1GHz at 1.1GHz. Not a big benefit, but it can be expected that it still uses the old TSMC N6 node.
Finally, 4G DC SAR technology “has the experience of popular social and messaging applications in remote areas and regions of weak cellular signals”. It does this by reducing the delay by 30% (you think this will be a blessing for more games than Facebook) and improving the reception range.
Halio G20 120 Hz supports 1080p+ display up to the refresh rate. It can be combined with 4,266 Mbps and UFS 2.2 storage with LPDDR4X RAM. It has a built-in cat. 13 DL 4G LTE modem, Wi-Fi 5 (AC) and Bluetooth 5.2 Support. Check the table below for comparison with the G99 and G100.
