Samsung’s chip-manufchard business is not doing great, and poor yield is partially guilty. The Galaxy S22 series also turned completely on Snapdragon this year. If the rumors are correct then the Exynos S26 will return to the series.
The issues with Samsung’s LSI (Chip Design Arm) are so deep that reports indicate a merger between Samsung LSI and other departments, possibly. Foundry. Early rumors suggest that Samsung is planning to merge Samsung MX (Mobile Experience) and LSI, but the latest development is pointing to the Foundry-LSI merger instead.
The South Korean News Outlet states that during an internal meeting at the company, three potential scenes were discussed – merge LSI to MX, merge LSI to foundry or large amount of restructuring LSI. According to those familiar with the matter, the merger was favored in the foundry, but no final decision has been taken.
It is interesting to note that LSI and foundry were once under the Samsung DS (Device Solutions) department, but they were separated in 2017 to reduce the possibility of a conflict with other Samsung foundry clients such as NVIDI and Qualcomm.
