Yesterday, Apple Pale unveiled the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max and iPhone Air. It all comes with many new features and specs, but was not talked about an interesting setting during the presentation – though it should be.

We are talking about using pulse width modulation (PWM) to demy the screen, which originally means that the screen is closed quickly and then again. This, sensibly, causes the eye tension, headache and other symptoms of some sensitive people, especially when it occurs at a lower rate. Apple Pal has a solution now.

All iPhone 17 models allow you to completely turn off PWM Dimming

The company has been one of the worst offenders of this front so far, with a very low PWM level. It has not changed, but now you can only completely close the PWM. You just go to the Access Accessibility Settings and find a labeled display pulse smoothing. Here is a description of the feature:

Pulse width disabled modulation to provide a different way to reduce OLED display, which can create a smooth display output at a lower brightness level. Disabling PWMs can affect low brightness performance under certain conditions.

This will definitely be a godsend for those sensitive to low PWM rates, and it’s better than nothing. Android side, most companies that are not Samsung and Google have tried to reduce this issue by offering a highly PWM rate, which many people do not affect.

And now we are wondering why we can’t keep these two in the same device – a very PW porch is a PWM rate, but also makes it so that the user can close it completely if it causes issues. Maybe in the future, here is the hope.
