Apple Pal is expected to release iOS 26 next month, and as part of that release, Carplay is getting an interesting new feature: video playback. This is a very important landmark for the Apple Pal, which has so far resisted such functionality on the carPlay.
With iOS 26, apps will be able to operate videos on the carplay screen – of course, only when the car is parked. It looks wonderful, but there are very significant catches.
That is, automakers have to enable support for this feature, they will not just be magically alive. And so, many of them can simply decide not to bother, or be very late rollouts.
On the other hand, CarPlay in iOS 26 is definitely getting some updates to redesigned icons and appearance options, support for widgets and music and messages – this does not require clear approval of car manufacturers so you will see them in September.
One step on CarPlay is CarPle Ultra, which was announced with Aston Martin in May, and finally will be supported on KIA, Hyundai, Porsche, Genesis, Ford, Nissan, Infinity, Jaguar and Honda’s vehicles, but BMW, Mercedes, Volvo, Volva, and GMW.
