Samsung unveiled the edge of the Galaxy S22 – measuring only 5.8 mm, it is the thinest smartphone in years. In fact, no other phone published in the 2020s has dropped below 6 mm thick. This does not happen cheap, of course – here is a detailed price breakdown. Is the phone you are waiting for or Samsung is trying to push a game that won’t catch up?
If you are leaning towards the former, you will be happy to hear that the edges of the Samsung Galaxy S22 are more influenced than just being thin – it is also very lighter. Despite the large disparity in the size of the screen (6.7 “v.2.1”) Vanilla Galaxy S 25 weighs more than one gram. And it packs 200MP sensors in the main camera, which is previously specific to the ultra models.
There is a downside, of course, like battery capacity – it is less than vanilla S 25 (3,900 mAh vs. 4,000 mAh). And it has slow charging (25W wired, 15W wireless). There is no telephoto camera, it depends on a 200MP unit to zoom in. And finally, it’s expensive – even with a free storage upgrade.
As always, the offers on the old models for a week or two are dried when the new model is launched. The price of the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra is currently higher than the edge, but it should be back to a sensible price point in a week or two. Ultra is chunkier (8.2 mm, 218g vs.
And the 200MP camera is not alone when it comes to zooming – there is a 10MP3x (67 mm) medium tally and a 50MP5x (111 mm) long tally. It also has a 50MP ultra-wide camera, while the same has a basic 12MP unit such as vanilla and plus models.
It is reported that the edge will change the plus model in the Galaxy lineup next year. This year, however, the Galaxy S 25+ is a little cheaper – even without a discount. If you want S 25+, we would advise you to wait a week or two. The phone is large despite the same screen size (7.3 mm, 190 g vs. 5.8 mm, 163 g). However, its battery is 1,000 mAh large (4,900 mAh) and fast 45W wired charging. Instead of a 200MP camera, it has a 50MP main and 10MP3X (67 mm) telephoto.
While that razor is thin, the edge of the S25 is still 75.6 mm wide. The Vanilla Samsung Galaxy S 25 is 70.5 mm wide and the same weight. Which phone is “small” in your mind? If it is S2, you get the same hardware as 6.2 “displays and 4,000 mAh batteries (essentially the same size as edge), S2 25+.
The Google Pixel 9 Pro XL is another phone that competes with Ultra instead of the edge. It measures 8.5 mm thick and weighs with 6.8 “displays and 5,060 mAh batteries (charging 37 W/23W). It has a 50MP main, 48MP5X (113 mm) and 48MP ultra-wide camera.
OnePlus 13 is close to the size of the ultra. But it packs a large 6.82 “display and 6,000 mAh batteries-Sumsung has not yet gone above 5,000 mAh. And this is with a fast 80 W wire and 50W wireless charging. The camera is 50MP main, supported by 50 MP3x (73 mm) and 50MP ultras, compared to € 300.
Poko F7 Ultra is right now on MSRP, but his brother, Poko F7 Pro, is closed to € 120 at the moment and is worth seeing. It’s really no edge rivals (8.1 mm thick, 206 grams weighs), but it is 6.67 “1440p+ 12-bit display and 90W charging with a 6,000 mAh battery with a Snapdragon 8 General 3 phone.
Realm GT6 € 90 is cheap and loses a little performance with its Snapdragon 8s General 3. It has 6.78 “LTPO displays (1264p+), plus 5,500 mAh battery with 120W charging. With 50 MP2X (47 mm) in camera, 50 MPRPT, however, than F7 Pro and its IP68.
Ziomi is in the same price category of 14T GT6. It uses the Dimensity 00 83. Ultra, which is behind Snapdragon 8S General 3. The camera setup is like GT6 50MP main (1/1.56 “vs. 1/1.4”) and 50MP tally (in addition, 5,000 mAh battery is less and only 67 W wire charging.
The Xiaomi 14T Pro Dimension is rotated to 9300+ and has both 120W wire and 50W wireless charging in 5,000 mAh batteries. The same is similar to 6.67 1220p+ OLED display with 12-bit colors and 144 Hz refresh rate. Camera setup with 2.6x lens for a long 50MP sensor (1/1.31 “) and 50MP tally (60 mm) is slightly better than 14 T.
