A recent report based on the leaked source code suggests that Google is preparing the deskt .P mode feature similar to Samsung’s Dex and Motorola’s smart connect Big-Screen interface. Indeed, deskt .P mode’s first traces were found back in 2023, but it seems that Google is approaching to release the facility.
According to the report, UI needs more polishing, and it is unlikely to come with Android 16. We will most likely launch it with Android 17 on the next Pay Generation Pixels.
The feature has been labeled as “Android Deskt .P Mode” and offers a great deal of features such as resurfacing windows, such as traditional deskt.
The feature will work when you connect the phone to an external display using a USB-C port, but we suspect that a wireless connection would also be possible, though it is too early to say. Samsung and Motorola, for example, provide wireless connection options with their deskt .P modes. And if we have to guess, the feature will be specific to pixel phones before reaching other Android phones.
