Samsung has announced that it is working to investigate and monitor the left ventricular systolic dysfunction (LVSD) in its smartwatch in the first world. This is a serious cardiovascular condition that is responsible for about 50% of heart failure and more fatal than some cancer.
Thus, a preliminary investigation is important for reducing the risk of death and being hospitalized. Samsung will use the AI algorithms developed in collaboration with Medical AI, a Korean Medical device company specializing in AI-based ECG. Algorithms were developed based on the algorithm of the medical AI home for 12-Lead ECG analysis, which are already deployed in more than 100 Korea’s hospitals and are used for 120,000 patients monthly.
Technology enables initial screening for asymptomatic people and also reduces the healthcare costs associated with heart failure by promoting early diagnosis and timely treatment.
Samsung has also partnered with the Biomedical Engineering Department of the University of Hanyang to develop the ear EEG prototype device, which aims to eliminate the limitations of traditional EEG systems, “an attractive, ergonomic design that allows seamless brainwesting outside the laboratory settings”. It receives high-quality signals from strategically placed electrodes around the ear.

Both of these are not the release date. LVSD investigation and monitoring are clearly more mature technology, so we should see this in the real world, at some point in the future.
