It all started with some Reddit posts by users reporting strange decolorization on their orange iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max models. However, more and more cases are coming out now.
iPhone 17 Pro Max colored in Cosmic Orange and Deep Blue
In fact, Cosmic Orange isn’t the only color affected by the problem. Some owners are reporting the same decolorization issue with their deep blue iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max. The problem seems to start on the camera island, but eventually spreads throughout the aluminum body, not just the matte glass in the middle.
Some users suggest that the problem is caused by outdoor UV light. Many affected have reported that their iPhones started to fade after being outside in the sun for a while.
So if you miss the rose gold color, you can get the cosmic orange color, leave it in the sun for a while and you’ll have a one-of-a-kind rose gold iPhone 17 Pro Max. Or so certain early adopters would have you believe, we experienced no issues with our review units.
Cosmic orange becomes rose gold
It’s still unclear how widespread the issue is, and we expect Apple to replace the affected units with new ones.
