Google Maps timeline feature (formerly known as location history) is very creepy and obese for some people, and is incredibly useful to others as it allows you to go back in time and allows you to see where you went on a particular day at a particular day, though you had your Android phone with you.
Google is preparing a huge overall of how the timeline works, which should hit all users in the next few months (the transition began in December). The timeline will be stored only on each device, if you choose it, so it will no longer be available from Google’s servers. It is a blessing for privacy, for sure, but during the transition Google did a very big opsie.
That is, it inadvertently deletes the timeline data of some people, and it has been good until they choose in encrypted cloud backups of data. Unfortunately, it seems very rational that only the very minority of users has done it, and therefore those who are no longer seeing their timeline data and are not seeing, there is no compromise – they will be lost forever.
According to a Google spokesman, this technical was the result of a problem, not a user error or deliberate change. It’s not very comfortable for people who have lost their timeline forever. Good news, if we can tell it, that is, Google knows exactly who affects it, and it has sent emails to people who explain their mistake – so if you have not received an email like the above Screensh Shot Tea, you are safe.
