Google has lost its right to sell its Google Pixel 7 series after a recent patent dispute with Korean mobile phone company Pentec. According to a Japanese district court, Google was found guilty of violating patents related to LTE connectivity.

Google Pixel 7 banned sales in Japan, Pixel 8 and 9 may also be banned

Pentch claimed against Google, arguing that the tech giant uses exactly the same technology as described in Pentec patent. The patent is related to how LTE modem interacts with cell towers in pixel phones. Patents, however, are not licensed in fair and reasonable situations.

As a result, the Tokyo court ruled that Pixel 7 phones should be removed from the shelves as Google refused to cooperate. The company refused to pay a reasonable royalty fee and also refused to provide data on the number of Pixel 7 phones sold in Japan.

The Japanese market is very important for Google because it is the second largest smartphone seller in the country after the Apple Pal, surpassing Samsung and Ziomi.

Pentec is now filing another lawsuit against Google, targeting the more recent Pixel 8 and Pixel 9 series, so both of them may face equal destiny until the two companies reach the settlement.
