If you’ve ever used a foldable phone with a magnetic case, you probably know the struggle. Magnetic cases seem to interfere with the sensor that measures the hinge angle, which is very crucial for daily use. It helps to integrate system transition between folded and revealed states.

Google Pixel 9 is fixing the harassing issue with Fold

With the release of Android 16 beta 2, the Google Pixel System Services is facing the issue on the Pixel 9 Pro fold through the application. Now there is a new setting called “Robest Open/Close Detection” and Google suggests that if you are using a magnetic case, you turn it on. This will eliminate the interference between the sensor and the magnet on the case.

However, additional warning indicates that if you are not using a case, you keep the option off as it can lead to faster battery drain.

Unfortunately, we do not know whether the fix will be made available to other Android foldables will be specific to the Pixel 9 Pro fold, and other manufacturers will have to come up with a fix on their own.
