As it usually happens, the unveiling of new flagship chipsets opens the floodgates of new flagship phone launches. Oppo is launching the Find X9 generation with two models – a mid-sized model and a larger model. This happened last year too, later we got the ultra phone and the smaller “s” model.

Both Oppo Find X9 and X9 Pro are powered by the new Dimensity 9500. The new chipset has a 32% faster CPU, 33% faster GPU and a massively faster NPU, up 111%. It’s not just about speed, the 9500 is also more efficient, 55% for CPU, 42% for GPU and 56% for NPU.

A major improvement in this generation is the ultrasonic fingerprint reader – the optical reader from the X8 series has been retired.

Okay, let’s talk about the camera and we’ll start with the Pro. The main camera uses a 50MP Sony LYT-828, 1/1.28″ sensor. It’s larger and two generations ahead of the 1/1.4″ LYT-808 inside the X8 Pro. It also has a better lens, f/1.5 7-element lens with OIS. Interestingly, Oppo has chosen a new default for the camera – a 50MP mode instead of the usual 12MP.
Moving on, the 200MP Hasselblad camera features a 1/1.56″ sensor with pixel-level calibration and DCG-HDR (dual conversion gain, meaning pixels are sampled twice for each photo). Oppo has also put a lot of effort into video capture. First, instead of long-form video, you can capture motion photos. The smaller and cheaper Oppo Find X9 sports a 50MP main camera using the old Pro’s sensor – a 1/1.4″ LYT-808 with f/1.6 lens with OIS. In comparison, the X8 has a smaller 50MP 1/1.56″ LYT-700 sensor with f/8 aperture.
This is joined by a 50MP 73mm periscope (f/2.6 lens with OIS) based on a 1/1.95″ LYT-600 sensor. This is the same as last year. Then there is a 50MP 15mm ultra-wide module (f/2.0 AF lens and 1/2.0 AF lens and 1/1/J75N) sensor. Going back to the Oppo Find X9 Pro for a moment, Oppo and Hasselblad have created a teleconverter accessory. This add-on lens has 12 glass elements and boosts the optical zoom for photos by up to 10x (up to 200x digital zoom). Video zoom goes up to 50x. This accessory is currently only available for the X9 Pro.
Oppo Find X9 series launches with ColorOS 16 based on Android 16. Oppo promises 5 OS updates and a total of 6 years of security patches.
It has deep integration with Google’s Gemini AI, in addition to in-house AI features – eg, in-house image demosing and denoising for the camera, plus features like AI Portrait Glow, AI Recorder and AI Mind Space. An interesting detail is that ColorOS 16 natively supports pairing with the Apple Watch.
The two phones are rated for water resistance with IP66 (water jets), IP68 (submersion) and IP69 (hot water jets).
