We have the new Realme 14 Pro+ in the office so let’s do the unboxing. Global unit ships without the 80W charger you get in China. The rest of the accessories are the same – you get a case and a USB-A to USB-C cable.
Realme introduces the 14 Pro+ as the world’s first cold-sensitive color-changing phone. Like sea creatures like jellyfish and octopus, the Realme 14 Pro+ has a thermochromic pigment in its rear panel that reacts to temperature changes.
The phone’s pearlescent white and orange back panel changes color to shades of blue when touched by a cold substance like ice or cold water. The colder the substance, the faster the color changes.
It’s a neat trick but even without it, we like the back panel design. The phone also has other unique features. The camera system is surrounded by no fewer than three LED lights, which work to create low-light shots with decent color temperature and professional-level light fill.
You let the phone determine or control the color temperature.
As a package, the 14 Pro+ is pretty solid. It packs a large 6.83-inch 1272x2800px 120Hz AMOLED, and a large 6,000mAh battery with 80W charging (supply your own brick though). There’s a Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 chip with 8GB or 12GB of RAM, and the body is IP68/IP69 rated so you don’t have to worry about dust or water.
The camera system is really impressive for the class with 50MP 1/1.56-inch main camera, 8MP 1/4.0-inch ultrawide and 50MP 1/1.95-inch 3x periscope zoom.
Who needs a flagship in 2025 anyway?
