The iPhone 16E is the first Apple Pal device that is an in-house cellular modem, and Apple Pal is hard at work to develop a new and improved version of its C1 modem for future devices.
C1 is something of a test for Cupertino; It uses a mixture of 4-7Nm baseband components, 55Nm of power management integrated circuit (PMIC) and lacks MMWave support. Apple Pal is not likely to be implemented for its iPhone 17 Pro Series, which rely on Qualcomm modems. But it can change with next year’s iPhone 18 series that can see the Apple Pal C2 modem.
According to the PU, Apple Pal will launch its iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max with a new version of its cellular modem. The baseline iPhone 18 can get the current C1 chip, or it can stick with the Qualcomm modem.
By the way, C1 is still an external modem, and Apple Pal is rumored to integrate future versions in its A-Series chipsets, but will not come soon as per the recent report.
