Earlier this year, the thread group unveiled a 1.4 version of the low-power smart home protocol. One major correction was a simple cross-ecosystem interoperity-that is that thread-based smart home devices of different brands could unite each brand rather than the need for its own control application.
Samsung’s smartths are one of the first smart home ecosystems to add support for this network integration. It is supported on Select Smarts Hubs (including AEOTech Smart Home Hub and AEOTech Smart Home Hub 2) and will be added to more hubs soon.

First, some terminology. The final device is something you can control on the thread network, e.g. Smart Light Bulb. A router additionally re -transmits messages to help creating a mesh network that has a wide range and reliability. Finally, the border router is a bridge between a thread network and a Wi-Fi or Ethernet network.
Smartthings are hubs border routers and you can attach them to one of the two ways with other thread-based devices. You manage the smartths hub interface, settings, thread network then start by managing the thread network to integrate the thread network.
From here, you can select a share smartthings network, which will give you QR code and one-time passcode (OTP). Using QR or OTP code, you can add third-party border routers to your smartthings thread network.
If you already have a thread network made of third-party devices and you just bought a smartths hub, you choose another option-join another network. Use QR or OTP code from a third-party app to add smartths hub to an existing network.
