Qualcomm just confirmed the nomenclature for its next-generation flagship chipset, and it would not be exactly the following last year’s Snapdragon 8 Chunanda. The next chip will be called Snapdragon 8 Elite 5. But why leave four pa -generations?
Well, it seems that Qualcomm is turning its original Snapdragon 8 Series naming scheme, which began in Snapdragon 8 General 1 in 2021. Since then, we received SD8 General 2 in 2022, followed by SD General 3 and last year’s SD8 Elite, which would have been Snapdragon 8 General 4.
The next Snapdragon 8 Elite 5 will be the fifth chipset in the series and that is, as Qualcomm puts it, “the evolution of its established structure” and not a complete change.
Qualcomm Hawaii is ready to unveil Snapdragon 8 General 5 at its Snapdragon Summit in Moi, which begins on September 23.
SD The Elite 5 is expected to use custom orion CPU cores with a custom CPU core at 4.6 GHz. The “for Galaxy” or the extreme edition version will reach 7.7 GHz. Qualcomm’s upcoming chip is also expected to offer a new GPU that is a clock rumor at 1.2 GHz and gives a record breaking antitoo score between 2.5 million and 4.4 million. The chip itself will be fabricated on the TSMC’s N3P3 NM process.
In the related news, Ziomi confirmed its 17 series, including the Ziomi 17, Ziomi 17 Pro, and Ziomi 17 Pro Max, which will begin as the first phones powered by the next Snapdragon 8 Elite 5 chip.
