Earlier this month, Sony stopped the sale of its Xperia 1 VII due to the inability to random reboot, shutdown and power. Later, the brand started investigating the issue and seems to have reached a conclusion.
It seems that a number of Xperia 1 VII units are influenced by a defective circuit board, resulting in the above issues. As a result, Sony will provide a free replacement program for the affected Xperia 1 VII users. The brand also confirmed that it changed its production process to ensure that future units would not suffer from the same issue.
Our investigation concludes that in the manufacturing process, the number of Xperia 1 VII smartphones can lead to a small number of circuit boards, which can result in power issues.
The production process changed immediately to ensure this would not happen again. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience to our customers. – Official statement of Sony UK
All Xperia 1 VII users are encouraged to test their phone’s IMEI number on the recognition portal.
If their device is affected, Sony will provide further instructions on how to apply for a replacement unit. The replacement program is set to begin on July 21. Sony also reminds affected users to back up their data before sending their devices for replacement.
Thanks for the tip, Josip!
