Sony just announced its new display tech that combines ownership signal processing, individual RGB LED control and high-density backlight. It’s not Oled Tech, which is why we are on the same page, but Sony argues that it is so good or better in some aspects.
Sony’s individual RGB LED
Sony’s setup allows the red, green and blue LEDs to run separately, which in turn guarantees the coverage of the punch and accurate colors and even large panels. Certain backlight control displays also help produce delicate color and light numbers. Sony says that Deep Wanda Movies with black, certain light grades and subtle colors look amazing.
Let’s talk about the specs. The new independent RGB LED design covers 99% of DCI-P3 color space and 90% of the ITU-R BT.2020 gut. Zonal peak brightness is more than 4,000 CD/m2, so HDR content will look great.
But it’s not just about brightness. Sony says certain backlight control solves some issues present with today’s OLED panels. There are no excessive elements, no crushed blacks and no problem in handling intermediate tones.
Sony partnered with MediaTek for control processors, LED drive ICS for ROHM and Sunn to PTOPElectronics for LED.
Sony plans to bring a new tech on Consumer TV and a professional display for material creation, which should sometimes be in large quantities of production this year.
