The production of smartphones was pressed to an extent, but now Attitude Reports that they are more than lumps – smartphone production increased to 300 million units in the second quarter of 2025. This increases from Q1 to 4% and Q2 from last year to 4.8%.
China runs a subsidy program for mid-ray and entry-level devices, which helped clear inventory. The program is also credited with raising product numbers for local smartphone brands.
The top two places in the global market are still captured by companies outside China. The Samsung remains #1 with 58 million units produced in the quarter, which is a reduction of Q1 to 5% this year – the natural downturn after the initial uptick due to the onset of new flagships.
The Apple Pal is in the same boat – it produces 46 million iPhone, which is 9% below the previous quarter. Interestingly, production has increased 4% compared to Q2 last year and Attitude With that the iPhone credits the strong demand for 16E. Also, the Apple Pill reduced the price of Deep in China this May, which paired with a local subsidy to help increase sales.
Next is Ziomi in 3rd (this includes Redmi and Poko-branded models). The company created Million 1 Million Units and benefited from China’s subsidy as well as expansion in South America and Africa.
OPPO (connected to OnePlus and Realm) produced 37 million units – 35% rebound after the first quarter.
Then there is transition (Techno, Infinix, ITL), which also went back from a weak start of the year to 27 million units in -33% quarter-on-quarter. Finally, the production of Vivo (including the IQOs) has increased by 8%.
In total, the top 6 smartphone manufacturers in Q2 2025 were 80% of the market.
