12 Maoists killed, 2 jawans dead in encounter in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur

NEW DELHI: At least twelve Maoists were killed in a fierce gunfight with security personnel in Bijapur district, Chhattisgarh, the Bijapur police said on Sunday.
During the encounter, two jawans lost their lives, while two others sustained injuries.
The gunfight erupted at a dense forest in Indravati National Park area during the morning hours while a contingent of security personnel was conducting an anti-Maoists operation, a senior police official said.
“As per preliminary information, 12 Maoists were killed in the gunfight,” he said.
An intermittent exchange of fire was still ongoing in the area, with further details awaited, he added.
The situation remains tense, and authorities are on high alert.
