AMBALA: Two armed men opened fire inside the district court complex in Ambala city on Saturday. Their target was a youth in police custody. The armed men came in a black color SUV car and fled the spot after committing the firing.
On receiving the information, the police teams reached the spot and started the investigation. The police have recovered two empty shells of bullets from the crime spot.
The CCTV camera footage at the court complex was being examined by the district police.
Ambala City SHO Sunil Vats and DSP Rajat Gulia were investigating the matter.
The SHO said that an accused Aman Sonkar of Khatik Mandi, Ambala Cantonment was in police custody, who was the target of the shooters.
“Aman Sonkar of Khatik Mandi, Ambala Cantonment had appeared in the court complex for recording his witness in a case. As Aman reached near the court gate, two men who came in SUV care opened firing at him. It appears to be a case of old rivalry. We are investigating the case with the help of CCTV cameras”, said the SHO.

The on-duty police staff at the court complex have witnessed the entire incident and gave their statements to the police.
The incident of firing at the court complex has raised serious questions on the security arrangements and the advocates at the court are under a sense of fear.
Ambala Bar Association secretary Ripanjit Singh said, “Such an incident took place at this court complex for the first time. The administration and police should look after the security arrangement. If a person is not safe inside the court, then what will be the situation outside. This incident has created a sense of fear among advocates.”
