Indian youths from Haryana and Punjab kidnapped in Guatemala; parents seek SOS

KAITHAL: Two youths, one from Haryana and the other from Punjab, have reportedly been kidnapped in Guatemala, prompting their parents to seek urgent assistance from the Indian government. On Monday, the families, along with several villagers from Mohna village in Kaithal district, met with the superintendent of police (SP) Rajesh Kalia, urging intervention to bring the youths back home safely.
Kuldeep Singh, the father of one of the victims, revealed that his son has been held hostage by agents and kidnappers in Guatemala. He shared that the kidnappers had assaulted his son and sent a video to the family, demanding a ransom of $20,000. The disturbing video shows the youth being tortured at gunpoint.
Kuldeep Singh explained that his son, Yuvraj Singh, had made arrangements through an agent to travel to the United States via a legal route. The deal was set for Rs 41 lakh, with an initial payment of Rs 2 lakh made in advance and started his journey in October this year.
The agents took Yuvraj’s passport and assured the family that the remaining amount would only be required once he reached the US. However, the agents later demanded an additional Rs 14 lakh in advance under various pretexts. In the end, Yuvraj was detained in Guatemala.
Kuldeep Singh further stated that the kidnappers sent a video showing Yuvraj and another youth from Hoshiarpur, Punjab, pleading for help. Both youths are shown in the video, with folded hands, begging their families for assistance as the kidnappers demand a ransom of $20,000. The agents who facilitated the travel are reportedly absconding, he added.
DSP Gurwinder Singh assured that the matter has been escalated to higher authorities. An investigation is underway, and definite action will be taken against those responsible, he said.
